There are five thousand years on earth in a V-bordered by the Tigris and Euphrates, south of the city devastated by the war we now call Iraq, there lived a village called the Sumerians. They worshiped many gods and goddesses, but the most powerful and beloved by all, was the goddess Inanna. Because, even then, that the earth is hot, arid landscape no trees, no rocks or minerals, it seems, a place doomed to poverty.
Using a clever system of irrigation, which have transformed their country into a severe Garden of Eden prosperous. Although they have their wars, they had more peace and there was sufficient stability in the Kingdom to enable them to succeed brilliantly. They developed the first writing system and built the first urban centers. Sumer became the cradle of civilization Â'the. Inanna, goddess of love, sexuality and fertility reigned over a thousand years.
Portfolio of Inanna been significant
In heaven, it was the morning and evening star
Bringer of the rains bring life and anger, a strong storm and thunder.
On Earth, she was the queen of all gods of the earth and as the goddess of fertility, as was also the goddess of love, family and sexual desire.
It was the goddess of the arts as a specific sexual kissing the phallus.
She was the goddess and the sacred prostitute prostitute street
The goddess of truth, but also of deceit
The goddess of war, but the healing
She was the goddess of the artisan, musician, singer and Scribe
In ancient times, priestesses behave more of this myth cycle of seven days and seven nights, including the coupling with the king to establish his adulthood, he won his divine right of kingship of the goddess and ensure the fertility of the land. During the first thousand years of civilization, the Sumerians were farmers and what each holy rite coupled Inanna years and married the king, who was a farmer. Then came the Akkadians, northern invaders, who were pastors from other media. So the myth of Inanna changed and began to embrace the shepherd Dumuzi, who usurped the farmer. But Dumuzi retained some features of the vegetation of God who died and was reborn every year as a reflection of the cycles of nature.
Downhill Dumuzi helped solve two facts that were theologically confusing to the Sumerians: the king who was supposed to be divine and not die, actually die as a mortal. But if he was God this vegetation is not acceptable that everyone knew the god of vegetation die each year. So how could - their deities allow all plant life to be decimated in the summer months? The myth says that you just have to wait for the gods return and reunion with their God, then life will flourish.
There are other reasons Dumuzi descends into hell. It is perhaps a reminder for those in power, it's good to be humble and respectful Â'Source divine. Otherwise, can become an obsession for power, wealth and glory.
If Dumuzi fate seems unfair, consider that can help in a sense, has its share Inanna down time just like Gesht-Inanna can be considered another aspect of Inanna.
Re Jenni said Neal Inanna was made by Cameron in 1991 for his performance diploma in center of dramatic action in Sydney. Neal Cameron is director of the Woodford case of fire since the start of festival until recently. Throughout the years Jenni has Inanna at folk festivals and concerts, and say it has changed a little knowledge myth has changed. Most of the text Jenni originally used as translated by Kramer and Wolkstein, but added contemporary touches, with the hope of the story as accessible as possible, without losing its original wealth, or power.
